Dance Classes at Instep

Tap classes
Like jazz dance, tap is an American art that has its roots in African slave dances.  They mixed traditional dances with jigs and clog dances.  So was born a new tapping, swinging style of dance, which is today performed throughout the world.

You need to move quickly and rhythmically to be able to tap dance.  Using your wholoe body, while your feet beat out the rhythms with the toe and heel taps fitted to your shoes.

Our Ballet classes
Ballet is an art which can be very beautiful, expressive and dramatic.  So much can be brought to life - comedy, tragedy, love, humour and joy.  In a ballet class you will study rules which have been laid down over the centuries.

To become a ballet dancer you need determination, strength, musicality, co-ordination and a good teacher.  From your first steps you develop strength and technique through exercises and movement, working to become a talented dancer.

Modern Jazz dance
Modern jazz dance is lively and fun and full of rhythm.  This class is for dancers who have basic ballet skills and are looking for an artistic challenge.  Students learn to express their emotions through movement.

You will need to be able to isolate parts of the body as well as  keep a rhythm.  This style of dancing is a North American tradition that developed from a mixture of African and European dances.  Today it is used extensively in musicals and is often referred to as 'Show' or 'Commercial' dancing.
